Forward Deployed Engineer

Sit with customers, find the real problem, and ship the system that fixes it in days, not quarters.

Forward deployed engineers work where our products meet a customer's real situation. You take a messy brief from a brand team, work out what they actually need from Perfstaq, and build it: integrations, data pipelines, LLM features, internal tools. Then you bring what you learned back into the product so the next customer gets it for free.

What you'll own in your first weeks

  • Run point on a customer deployment of Perfstaq, from the first call to something they use every week.
  • Build the integrations and data plumbing that deployment needs, in production TypeScript or Python.
  • Ship an LLM feature end to end: prompts, evaluation, retrieval, cost and failure handling, and the interface around it.
  • Write down what customers keep asking for, and turn the repeat requests into product changes.

What you must already be able to do

All of these. This is the bar, not a wish list.

  • You ship production TypeScript or Python that other people depend on, and you own it after it ships.
  • You have deployed at least one LLM feature end to end: you chose the approach, measured it, and fixed what broke in production.
  • You can sit with a customer, turn a vague problem into a clear plan, and have a working system in front of them within days.
  • You work across the stack: APIs, databases, background jobs, a frontend when needed, and the deployment itself.
  • You explain technical trade-offs in plain language to people who are not engineers.

You'll stand out if

  • You have been the first engineer on a product, or the only engineer in the room with a customer.
  • You have built evaluations for LLM output and changed a system because of what they showed.
  • You know how AI assistants answer questions about brands and products, and have opinions on why they get things wrong.
  • You have written docs or a post that other engineers actually used.

Don't apply if

  • You want a well-defined ticket queue. Most of this work starts as an unclear problem.
  • You haven't shipped anything to real users yet. Look at the engineering internship instead.
  • You'd rather not talk to customers. Here it is half the job.

How we hire

  1. 01Apply with proof of work. Links to things you built or grew tell us more than a CV, so there is no CV upload.
  2. 02We read every application. If your work clears the bar for the role, we email you.
  3. 03A practical exercise. A practical exercise relevant to the role, close to the work you would actually do.
  4. 04A conversation with the founder. About what you've built, how you think, and the work ahead.
